Scripture Memory Journey

Have this sweet friend Kim.  She just so happens to be our music minister's wife, but more than that, she is lady who seeks to know God more.  She is constantly sending out encouraging e-mails and is serious about us girls holding one another accountable.  I am thankful for Kim and her friendship.  I am also thankful that Kim has inspired me to take on a challenge this year.
Last year Kim participated in a scripture memory challenge through Beth Moore's LPM blog.  The challenge was to learn 2 verses per month for the whole year.  Kim not only started the journey but she finished and finished well.  She even got to have her picture made with Beth at the big scripture memory celebration!


While the LPM blog is not doing the challenge again this year, Kim is continuing the challenge and invited me to join her.  I am a little behind on posting but I have been working on my 2 verses per month.  As of today I have 3 memorized and I am working on the fourth.  To provide myself with some accountability I will be posting on the 1st and 15th of every month with the verse I am going to be memorizing.

There is nothing fancy about it.  I choose a verse that God has led me to or one that I think may be helpful to know as I am dealing with everyday life.  I have a little notebook that I write my verses in and I try to practice when I can.  I am so excited to see what God does this year.  I believe there is SO much power in hiding His word in our hearts!

So far I have been working on:

Philippians 2:14-15
Do EVERYTHING without complaining or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure children of God without fault in a cooked and depraved generation in which you shine like the stars in the universe.
(obviously if I could just learn to practice the first 6 words in this verse life as I know it would totally change!)

Philippians 2:3-4
Do nothing out of SELFISH ambition or vain conceit but in humility consider others better than yourselves.  Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others.

Proverbs 29:11
A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.
(So what would I be considered if I just give a little vent to my anger?? This is another verse I really want to learn to practice not just memorize!)

Philippians 4:8
Finally brothers whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think on these things.
(I spend WAY to much time dwelling on things that are not excellent or praiseworthy...namely, my own selfish desires, and how I think things should go MY way...see why I need to know verses 1 and 2!)


It's not too late for you to join up and take this journey with us!  We are only on verse number 4!  Let me know if you want to join up...we are still thinking about what we will do in December when we meet our goal!

I want to join in the fun! Is there a list, or can I pick the ones I want to memorize??? Mine will have to be one for February and then 2 per month after that.

My Mom and I just started learning verses together... we are keeping each other accountable. I write mine on an index card and tape it to the mirror in the bathroom. It think it is so beneficial....small world. I may have to use some of the verses you have choosen I like them a lot. This week we are doing I Thess. 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and lift each other up, just as you are doing.
